Broccoli Soilless Culture

1. Growing Media selection

2. Seedling
(1) Sowing: Put seeds in a tray, one seed per hole, and add water , it is important to ensure that the seed will not float.
(2) Shading: Covering the tray and seeds, put them into the seedbed and wait for germination.
3. Seedling management.
(1) It takes 2 to 3 days for them from sowing to germinating, during this time we need to adjust temperature and moisture.
(2) When the seeds grow 2 leaves and 1 heart, it is the vegetative period of broccoli. At this stage, if the roots are malnourished and the temperature in the seedbed are too high, it is easy to cause stunted seedlings. During this time, shade needs to be done, and we need to shade and cool from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
4. Precautions
(1) Broccoli likes cold, pay attention to keep shade before sowing to sprout, control the temperature of 20-25 °C, and the maximum can not exceed 35 °C.
(2) The substrate should not be too dry or too wet, which will affect seed germination or cause rotten roots.
(3) At the later stage of seedlings, fertilizer shall be supplemented according to the condition of seedlings. We usually refertilize for the first time when the first real leaf is just unfolding. Here, we need to pay attention to controlling the fertilizer concentration. At the same time, in order to prevent and control pests, we need to strengthen management, rational use of fungicides and so on.
In general, the advantages of soilless cultivation of broccoli are that the substrate does not have viruses, the seedlings have developed roots, it is convenient to be transplanted, and the seedling age can be properly controlled. Therefore, it is widely used in practical applications.
